About Mrs. Walker

Greetings 8th graders, parents, and friends. I am the Social Studies teacher for the Aviators' team. I have a degree from UNC in Political Science and American Studies as well as a degree from NCCU in Middle Grades Education. This is my sixth year with Brogden and the Aviators team. I am also the advisor for the student government association. I do not have easy access to a phone during the school day, so I very much prefer to be contacted via email. I'm looking forward to another wonderful year here at Brogden!

About 8th Grade Social Studies

Eighth grade social studies examines the roles of people, events, and issues in North Carolina history that have contributed to the unique character of the state today. Building on the fourth grade introduction, the time frame for this course emphasizes revolutionary to contemporary times. The organization is primarily chronological and reference is made to the key national phenomena that impacted North Carolina throughout these periods. Although the value and methods of historical study as a way of learning about people are stressed, key concepts of geography, civics, and economics are incorporated throughout the course for a fuller understanding of the significance of the people, events, and issues. Inherent to the study of North Carolina history is a continuing examination of local, state, and national government structures.

Homework

It is my policy NOT to accept late homework. Homework assignments are to be turned in at the beginning of class on the day they are due. This is normally the day after the assignment was given. Extensions will be given only to students who have an excused absence. Students with an excused absence have three days to make up any work assigned during that absence. Work that was due on the day the student was absent is to be turned in the day the student returns to school. Please check your student's agenda book on a regular basis for homework, projects, and test dates.
