About 8th Grade Math

This course follows the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for eighth grade mathematics. The major concepts and skills for this course are in the Algebra strand with an emphasis on equations, inequalities, linear functions and slope. Other topics include the real number system, use of the Pythagorean theorem, scatter plots and indirect measurement. The thread of problem solving and applications connects all the topics of the curriculum and includes the appropriate use of computers and calculators.

About Algebra I

This course emphasizes algebraic thinking and application of algebraic concepts. Topics include real numbers and operations, translation to and from mathematical symbols, functions, linear equations, inequalities, operations with polynomials and polynomial fractions, factoring, and systems of equations, graphing, quadratic equations, and radical expressions.
